Itera Research is among the Top 25 CRM Software Development Companies

Itera Research’s background and expertise are tightly linked to the development of management software for customer relationships, accounting and billing, delivery processing and logistics, human resources or facilities asset management.

Recently we are proud to say that we have been featured as a Top CRM Software Development Company on

CRM, or customer relationship management, represents far more than just a contact list of customers. These tools record, prioritize, and monitor the status of your relationships with customers as well as internal procedures and activities.

These days, to be effective and competitive, no organization should work without CRM and software development companies are no exception.

According to the research carried out by Itera Research, 80% of the development companies failed in finding a CRM matching their specific needs so they started to build their own. However only a few of them have completed it and used it and our company is in this minority. We created Fine CRM in 2007 and continue using it to manage our entire business flow, boosting it periodically with new features and advanced UX and UI.

In short, it fully covers needs in:

  • Task and project management;
  • Human resources management;
  • Accounting tools;
  • Tracking proposal pipelines and campaign details;
  • Customer tools such as forum, knowledge base or a billing system.

A CRM we developed for an Australian customer grew into a SaaS ERP which improves not only the sales flow but also product management (shipment, stock control), supply and stock control, warehouse and asset management, marketing and accounting.

There is a question without a correct answer – whether it’s better to use an off-the-shelf CRM or order a bespoke one.

Any solution has its pros and cons and the choice depends on the specifics of an organization and its internal flows. However, it’s better to bear in mind that it might be impossible to customize software out of the box or enhance it with new functionality to exactly match your needs.

Itera Research At Copenhagen Tech Festival 2018

The second year of the Tech Festival in Copenhagen brought in more than 16,000 people over five days. We had the opportunity to attend as well, and some interesting experiences to share with you.

Unique Features of Copenhagen Tech Fest

The first thing we noticed was that it wasn’t like a usual tech festival: there were no sponsor corners, nothing like that. The entrance fee was about 25€ but no one was checking your bracelets. During the weekend, you could bring your children. All in all, great organization and great friendly atmosphere where everyone knew what they came for.

We had a chance to visit a workshop that was held in a loft-style coworking. Such atmosphere is great for a startups, perfect for exchanging the knowledge on business and technology, as well as for networking.

A few things worth noting:

  • Every topic touched upon not only tech, but also social and environmental problems. The prospects of using artificial intelligence in medicine and the influence of digital media on mental health were among the topics discussed.
  • The Smart City program is very in right now. Local organizations and funds in Denmark support people who make a contribution to environmental safety and other issues connected to the Smart City concept. We had the opportunity to meet organizations that connect research institutions with businesses to get synergy effect.
  • A great part of the fest was that 150 visionaries from over 35 countries created a catalog with 150 principles for a new direction in tech. The posters are designed to connect more with people who are less tech-oriented.
  • There were about 200 different events held around the city in different coffee shops, bars, and restaurants. It was very neat, even if, in the end, it didn’t exactly scream «Techfest». It did help us get a feel of the local mentality, culture, and even business specifics.
  • There were also many single workshops, meet-ups and summits for different occasions. Every one of them had an event planner who picked speakers very scrupulously.

In general, we were left with an impression that this year’s Tech Festival was primarily aimed towards students and tech startups. Although that might have been just because we missed the lectures on more complicated topics.

Local Specifics

Compared to Web Summit and CeBIT, this one was more of a local event. Most people came from Denmark and the neighboring parts of Sweden. But we were also able to meet  people from other parts of the world: Greece, Spain, UK, Germany, Norway.

The local market is quite limited so it seems like everyone wants to get to the international one. The population of Denmark is only about 5 million, and it’s hard to get a nice investment for a startup if it’s oriented towards the local market and there is no scalable business model.

Final Thoughts

Copenhagen Tech Fest 2018 was a fun experience. The importance of social issues and ecology was a refreshing accent for a technology event.

Our Team At IoT Tech Expo Amsterdam 2018

It was a glorious summer for Itera Research. Numerous high-quality solutions were created for our clients, new business relations were built, and we made further steps towards professional improvement.

One of these steps was the attendance of IoT Tech Expo Amsterdam 2018. It was an outstanding experience, and we would like to share our impressions with you.

Things You Should Know about Tech Expo Amsterdam 2018

IoT Tech Expo is one of the greatest in IoT world event.

  • 2 days;
  • 3 co-located events;
  • 300+ speakers;
  • 300+ exhibitors;
  • 8,000+ attendees.

The topics were quite different. Smart buildings and intelligent transport along with connected supply chain improvement were discussed. It makes sense to particularly emphasize the topics devoted to management. The speakers highlighted IoT devices management, including smart grid data management, asset monitoring, analytics building, etc. The speakers have also described a lot about data privacy and security, and IoT apps development itself.

Great new solutions for industries like Energy, Transport and Logistics, Insurance, Healthcare, Government, etc. were highlighted.

3 Key Reasons We Joined IoT Tech Expo Amsterdam 2018

Why did we decide to attend the exhibition in the first place? There were 3 key reasons for that:]

  • IoT Applications Overview

The point is to constantly increase the awareness about modern tools and technologies. This is what our company is keen on; this is what we have been doing daily for years. The IoT Tech Expo Exhibition is the place where we heard much about IoT application development, new approaches and methodologies in this aspect.

  • New Cooperation Opportunities

Particularly, we were interested in data transfer cost minimization. If it goes about international data exchange, this type of services is quite expensive. So we were actively looking for ways to solve this issue as well as for partners who share our interests.

  • Smart City Solutions

Another interesting thing is Smart City solutions implementation in Northern European countries. What is the government’s role in this process? What type of programs is the most actionable? There are tons of questions and we are looking for the answers. Networking with the business owners who are the experts in these topics was extremely useful. Besides, it turned out that solutions we develop for the local market are in high demand in the Netherlands and other European countries.

Points We Would Like to Emphasize

Great things highlighted by great people – this is the top reason for the attendees to visit a conference. IoT Tech Expo is no exception.

And this is what left the strongest impressions:

  • Global SIM Card Market

We have not expected to face such a great number of international SIM card solutions! The number and quality of solutions increases, but there is still a need to make them cheaper.

  • Blockchain Niche

The event was devoted to the IoT mainly. So imagine our surprise when we have noticed plenty of blockchain startups! Of course, these 2 directions may be connected. But we did not expect blockchain to occupy so much territory and win so much attention.

  • Data Security

Data security always deserves exceptional attention. Here, we took part in the discussions about data transfer and storage security, IoT solutions vulnerability, etc. The number of IoT solutions increases, and at the same time, the number of potential sources of danger multiplies.

A Few Words on the Organization

Great convenience. This is what built the basis of our positive impressions. We would like to emphasize both the organization and supportive apps.

The pleasant experience started with no queue, nervous managers, crowd or noise. We are grateful for all the efforts organizers have devoted to making these 2 days so nice for us.

Organization tools were awesome. The applications worked seamlessly and helped us with navigation, networking, and general information about each component of the exhibition. We can say that they worked even better than those used at much bigger events like TheNextWeb or WebSummit! Great job!

The IoT Tech Expo Amsterdam 2018 was organized in a way that was excellent for live communication and networking. Beautiful Amsterdam canals, cosy bar, delicious food and beverages contributed to the overall atmosphere.

Final Thoughts

The number of IoT startupers and investors grows annually. People who start investing in this direction lose their interest in other industries. The IoT topic wins the attention. This is one of the most profitable directions nowadays. And in this niche, each startup can find its place.

The ecosystem is actively growing. And we are glad to contribute to the global changes.

How To Reduce Costs On LMS Development At The Very Start

You don’t need a lot to develop an LMS system. Yet, it doesn’t mean you’ll end up creating a good LMS system. To make sure you’re better than your competitors in eLearning market, you need to pay close attention to some details before you even start writing the first line of your code.

What Is LMS?

Learning Management System (LMS) represents software (mostly web-based or cloud-based) with its main purpose being to administer (i.e. to manage) educational programs or training courses. LMS does everything that a regular educator would do: it manages the delivery of the essential data to learners, as well as the assessment of their progress and home assignments. It can be implemented in various ways, depending on objectives and resources of the company that has decided to deploy a course for their employees. Thus, implementing LMS may involve courses led by trainers in real time, peer-to-peer assignments, various files for reading (relevant articles, books, documents etc.), recorded lectures that are available online 24/7 etc.

LMS does miracles for companies who take it on for placement, compliance or other training that are crucial for developing employee’s competencies. The magic trick can be explained simply: LMS makes those trainings more cost-effective than ever before. As courses take place online, there is no need to bring together trainers and trainees; besides, an online course can be taken on any day and at any time. It is faster and as convenient as never before.

That’s what LMS embodies and what it should be. And that’s the reason why the corporate demand for LMS is skyrocketing.

4 Factors To Consider Before Starting Development

Before you even start looking for developers or engaging investors, you need to consider the following four things to make your development as cost-effective and productive as it can be.

If you choose to develop your LMS in the USA, prepare to pay your developers from $65 to $150 per hour. Yet, you can get the same quality at a lower cost by hiring developers from Latin America ($30-$50 per hour on average) or Eastern Europe ($20-$40 per hour). Asian countries, especially India, look quite attractive too with hourly rates $18-$40 on average.

Although, don’t opt for a cheaper option if it’s of lower quality: that would only harm your final product.

Besides, when it comes to LMS, you need your software to be understandable to the end users. That kept in mind, you need to choose the language of the interface depending on the target group. And make sure you hire a native speaker to proofread it, as there is nothing more frustrating than a bad translation.

Type Of Development

You have two options: taking open code and building upon that or designing an LMS solution from a scratch. There are many ready-to-use and open-software LMS solutions, and they may look attractive. Yet, a custom solution designed from a scratch is better on oh-so-many levels, from being tailored to the company’s needs and not having excessive features to integrating it seamlessly with the company’s software environment and fitting it perfectly into the workflow.

Technology Stack

If you need to create an app for Android and iOS, that would bring additional costs to the table. Same goes for choosing between a web-based or cloud-based solution, as well as for the scope of required features. Once you have this figured out, you can define your technology stack.  All of this influences what competencies the members of your team must possess and the time frame of the project. And that can drive up or decrease development costs.

As we’ve emphasized above, opt for quality, not a cheap price tag. If you fail to do so, the cost of cleaning up the unprofessional developer’s mess will be higher than the costs you had cut.

Be precise about who you need and what competencies should be up their sleeve. Everything depends on how well you understand who you need, from the application’s architecture to its design and user experience.

Apart from hiring developers with suitable competencies, there is one more choice to make. Are you going to engage only in-house team or you’re going to outsource/outstaff? If you’re outsourcing/outstaffing, what is the expected ratio of your in-house team to the online one?

How To Start Smart

Identify Your Objectives

If you want a “new Moodle”, you’ve already lost to your competitors in the market. As in any market, the competition is cutthroat.

Understanding what you are creating LMS system for is the key to formulating the unique selling point of your product. That means that you need to understand your target group’s needs. Then, you need to figure out how to satisfy those needs. Only having done that, you can move on to the next step.

Analyze Your Assets

Evaluate what resources you have now and what assets you are going to need in order to develop your LMS. Assets that are available now already set budget and time restrictions, as well as help you prioritize what features you have to include in your final product, and what features are optional and can be added after deployment. This step is the key to making your project realistic.

Create A Detailed Project Scope

Projects may start as ambitious ideas. Yet, if you don’t structure what you want to accomplish and how you are going to do that, you are bound to fail. All your thoughts, ideas, and needs must be put into documentation. Think of all the features that you’d like to have in your LMS system. Then, go back to the assets you have or can obtain. Now, scratch those features that are too costly and are not vital to the concept of the system. Create detailed architecture, identify what frameworks should be used to develop the system.

Beware The Hidden Costs

The biggest hidden cost that you should aware of is the cost of low-quality labor. As we’ve mentioned before, if you opt for a cheaper rate instead of high quality, you will end up spending more editing the code and fixing bugs.

Don’t forget to consider the costs of hosting your ready-to-use system on servers, as well as investing in developing the software that wouldn’t crash under a huge workload.

Calculate other risks and evaluate what is cheaper: preventing those risks from becoming reality or reacting to the unfortunate events as they take place.

The Bottom Line

Beginnings are always tough and exciting at the same time. The way you plan your project defines the quality of the final product. Make sure you consider wisely the location, type of development, technology stack and developers on your future team. Besides, be precise about your objectives and assets, and write down your project scope in perfect details. Don’t forget to make sure you consider hidden costs and calculate risks. Good luck in your endeavors!

Creating a Perfect Webinar Tool: What Options Do You Have

In today’s world, a webinar is not only a remote lecture on video communication but a useful tool for generating leads and promoting on the Internet. By giving people the opportunity to find out the information they are interested in, you will receive contact information of potential customers already interested in your services in return. On gaining wide application in the advertising field, webinars received a powerful push to automate many functions. After all, to use all the capabilities of this tool you need to perform many operations manually. Therefore, we have prepared materials on how to make an assistant tool in conducting webinars, which meets all modern and personal needs.

Understanding Multiple Webinar Scenarios

Remote presenters. Of course, it makes no sense to consider the functions of tools without regard to specific use cases. Modern programs for webinars successfully merge on and off campus using remote interaction features. For example, as a webinar has two parties – learners and presenters – participants can access an event from all over the globe using PC or phone. That’s why if there are several presenters who are not in one place, they can either access all the features by joining the event or even run several programs on the presenter’s PC remotely.

Discussion management. An important role in the webinars is played by discussions. You can, at your own discretion, determine who can participate in the discussions during the webinar. However, it should be noted that not always the possibility of managing textual communication is the determining factor for the choice of the instrument. Sometimes basic settings are enough especially if there is only a need to deliver the same information right away to a large number of listeners.

Training integration. In training webinars within companies, there is usually a need to organize group work. Therefore, some of the tools allow learners to interact with each other in a mixed webinar which is combined with face-to-face activities. There are webinar tools integrated with the distance learning environment called Moodle. The creators of Moodle training courses have the opportunity to build in the learning process such training formats as online training, and master classes, into their webinars.

Promotion enhancement. Also, more and more often webinars are used not in training but promotional purposes. Some of them make it possible to create a landing page for an online event with a webinar description and registration form. After registration, a mass mailing of invitations to the webinar can be carried out directly from the platform.

Webinar Application Design

Research & training. First of all, to start the development you need to determine the target audience of the future application. Answer the following questions first:

  • In what kind of webinars will it be used? (advertising, training)
  • How many experts can be present simultaneously (for instance, round tables allow to collect several experts at one event to discuss the topic)
  • The number of participants (if you are going to develop a tool for your own organization) and the limit of participants by subscription (for application monetization)

To define a format of webinars which will be organized by means of application you can also use market research results.

Development. In the development of the application associated with the video signal, you will have to face the prevention of connection loss, the quality of signal transmission, video capture from the host computer screen, etc. Also, you may need to develop algorithms for remote connection and control of a computer.

Basic features to be implemented:

  • Waiting room
  • Timeline
  • Live Chat
  • Transmitting the screen & voice
  • Email automation
  • Participating confirmation
  • Capturing video of the webinar

Advanced features:

  • Whiteboard
  • Participants analytics
  • Mobile support
  • Ability to draw on the screen
  • Ability to mute some attendees
  • Monetization tools
  • Multiple host support, etc.

Quality assurance. Another important point is ensuring the quality of the application. Webinars require the simultaneous connection of a large number of people (from 2 to several thousand people), which implies high loads on the server side. Therefore, it is important to test the application operation in both ideal and unfavorable conditions – unstable connection, numerous simultaneous requests, etc.

Support. Technologies do not stand still, so it’s important to implement improvements to the application as often as possible. The support team will cope with this task.

Available Solutions: GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar

GoToMeeting is a well-known webinar and video-conference tool with a long history. This is the basic solution allowing to create conferences with up to 15 people first launched in 2004. In addition to the basic features, it gave an ability to record discussion for further playback, sharing access to individual applications, tools for drawing on the screen and for generating reports. It gradually evolved into one of the greatest webinar tools as it uses patented technology that allows access to an arbitrary application running on the presenter computer in real time. GoToWebinar is another project of the same company, Citrix Online, used to create webinars for 1000 people simultaneously.

Summary: How to Make a Successful Application for Webinars

Creating a reliable application for webinars is not much different from creating any other quality application. All you need to remember about the peculiarities of this sphere is that it needs to support working with a large number of participants in real time, which means high software and server loads. However, carefully designed application architecture and quality testing of all the elements of the system will allow you to create a worthwhile product for both mass and personal use.

How to Survive WebSummit: 10 Practical Tips

If you were lucky enough to visit the WebSummit at least once, then we don’t need to explain you why we used the word “survive”. And if you’re just planning a trip, then you should definitely read these tips. This is a wonderful and huge event that will turn your world around, show the freshest trends, and fill your notebook with new contacts. However, for the grandiose nature (60 thousand people it’s like at the English Premier League football match) of the event not to grasp your plans, we prepared these 10 WebSummit advices.

10 LifeHacks For WebSummit We Learned

Why do you go there?

Before buying tickets, decide what you want to get from this event. It hardly makes sense to spend huge money on a trip, if you just want to watch the speakers performances. Secretly, I will say that usually, the records of all speeches are available to the general public in the YouTube in 2-3 months. Another thing is when you plan an active networking, personal meetings, or promoting your startup.

Compose the agenda

To do everything, you will need an agenda. Don’t forget to include pubcrawling, nightsummit, and other night events into your plan, as they are the places where you can get even more useful acquaintances. Careful planning is the key to success. It is important to appoint meetings close to each other, so as not to wind circles around the pavilions.

Don’t rely on WiFi

Be sure that the WiFi will not work in the pavilions as there are too many users. So, buy a local sim card on arrival in Lisbon and feel comfortable.

Don’t rely on WebSummit official app too

It is crucial to chat and settle for a meeting outside the official app. Its bugs and crashes were the main topics for backstage conversations and small talks at WebSummit 2017. Those who agreed to a meeting was not able to see where and when they should meet the partner. Try to use common messengers this time.

Prepare to walk much

It’s better to put on comfortable shoes and clothes: you’ll have to walk a lot. Think only: 4 huge pavilions, the main stage, and a separate hall. Experience has shown that 12 km per day is not the limit. Not a trifle. Remember also that there will be a queue at the entrance where you’ll stay at least for an hour. Quite a challenge for your feet.

Register on WebSummit beforehand

You want to participate in any case, do you? Therefore, the best practices are to register on the web summit at the airport, where the whole procedure takes 10 minutes. Do not be too lazy to do it in advance.

Take some food with you

Take a snack along as queues at food courts can leave you hungry. You can also grab an empty bottle to fill it with water and not look for a cooler every time you want to drink.

Charge the phone

Yes, it’s a crucial point. You won’t survive the Websummit without the phone’s assistance. Better take a power bank with you to be mobile and not to suffer circumstances. I’ll bet, you keep both the agenda and the list of meetings in the smartphone, so you need to keep it charged.

Note everything

One proven way of how to succeed at the Websummit is to note all the information you gained. It is proved that everything that was not noted in the next couple of minutes will be immediately forgotten.

Don’t mix up alcohol

Just don’t do it, all right? Don’t be tempted as this temptation will ruin your impressions of the event and disrupt all the plans.

Sincerely yours,

Case Study. TeamOutLoud: Facebook for Employee Recognition

TeamOutLoud is a social app for companies (hotels, in particular) with a powerful employee engagement system. Just like in LinkedIn or Facebook, employees here are able to evaluate professional and interpersonal skills of each other, post news and comment other updates, add and take photos of their work activities. The app is dedicated to increasing employees engagement, retention, and happiness.

The end customers of our clients once came up with the problem. They had an idea to create an app that could solve it, so they came to us, as we already have some cooperation with them. The app should be a simple, user-friendly tool to involve employees into evaluating skills and build a friendly corporate culture, leveraging the human resource potential. What was required to consider is:

  • The quick result to test the market;
  • A convenient interface for users not to waste time on the functionality search;
  • A quick response, as it is a social app connecting people with one another. It was extremely needed to shorten the timeout and show new info immediately.

  • We decided to make a PhoneGap application. PhoneGap reduces application development time for iOS and Android to 30%.  Our company has worked with PhoneGap plugins before. It also allows reducing the budget by 20-25%, which is important for startups.
  • Standard patterns for unique solutions.
  • Firstly, as we had a considerable experience working with AngularJS, we started designing the solution using this framework. However, its efficiency didn’t match project needs. To make our social app operating as quickly as Facebook, we developed our own ReactJs-like library. Such a solution made it possible to build an in-app news feed quickly and show the changes instantly.

TeamOutLoud is already have a rich success story. It is used by The Ritz-Carlton, Corinthia, Intercontinental, Sheraton hotels and serves more than 6000 users in total. IR is a development partner of the TeamOutLoud startup featured at WebSummit 2015 in Dublin, which then proceeded to the pre-accelerator stage and finally to startup accelerator which takes place in Lisbon in November during Websummit 2016.

Not the Average Event for Startups

In last May the Itera Research team visited one of the biggest international conferences in IT world. We are excited to share impressions and conclusions.

The Next Web conference was held in Amsterdam, one of the most high-tech cities in Europe. This is the city where the world’s first airport was built in which passengers check in their luggage and register for the flight by themselves. It is hard to imagine how comprehensively its citizens care about the environment: in April, local lawmakers announced that they want to ban gas and diesel cars by 2025 in favor of electric vehicles in the hope that this will change the face of the city in the future. Such combination of financial technology, energy efficiency, culture and start-ups in Amsterdam made it a locomotive of the Europe.

As for the conference itself. It was two amazing days. Every year the organizers gather under its wing top-notch and state-of-the-art startups, venture funds, hardware and software developers. Each of them can find new opportunities, ways to grow revenue, and incredibly useful networking there.

We noticed one interesting fact: many startupers have wonderful and useful ideas to implement. BUT they do not have a clear idea of how to correctly and effectively bring the idea to the market. The great challenge of implementing the idea and making it a business arises. That is why our world needs such universities and business schools for IT startups.

So, let the story begin!

Trends That Will Shape Tomorrow

It is always difficult to oversee the future. Such events as TNW is an extremely convenient opportunity to trace the world’s trends in IT sphere. And what we all managed to find out about the IT of the future is concerned with such technologies:

Chatbots. New Communication Interface

This brand-new user interface is constantly gaining popularity, and the startups presented at the conference just confirmed that. Hu:toma, a deep-learning chatbot, allows a person without any programming skills creating his/her own unique bot that will perform assigned functions. Can you imagine that? Hu:toma operates without any training and software development skills because it learns automatically from your mail and other available data. The developers wanted to create a similar tool for creating bots, as a WordPress for websites.

Another bot presented at TNW 2017 is a Geekbot – a Slack chatbot for standup meeting automation. It asks each team member in Slack at a preset time about what they did yesterday, what they want to achieve today and what the biggest roadblocks are. We think it would really work improving transparency of the work process and empowering individual leadership.

Blockchain. The Financial World Revolution

Only imagine that, eventually, in several years we could completely cease using papers for money. The Blockchain is exactly the technology that overthrow the whole idea of money turnover. Primarily it is used for storing data as a digital register of transactions and contracts usually made in bitcoins: data on loans issued, property rights, traffic violations, etc. Its hallmark and undeniable advantage is that this registry is distributed among thousands of computers all over the world providing transparency, so that any user of this network can have a free access to its current version. Some banks are already interested in this technology, and, to our sense, blockchain will soon make a revolution in a financial world.

Internet of Things. People Work Less, Robots Work Smarter

The world is changing toward robots. Yes, we’re sure of that! As today even a coffee machine can be connected to the Internet, it high time to decide for what purpose should we make that. Earlier a person had to manage all the processes that were performed by various devices, but now there is a tendency to create “smart” devices that are capable of learning and performing the necessary actions depending on the situation.

Social Networks. The Far Side of Each Person

An extraordinary number of startups represented at the conference were applications for social networking, messengers, and various communities. There have also been presented apps that make life easier for those who work in social networks. One of them,, helps online marketers to get only important notifications and set a time when they should appear (immediately or periodically). Rather a useful thing, we won’t mind to try on!

Self-destructive messages came to many people’s liking, however, for those who like to keep separate messages ChestNote was created. One may use it to relieve old memories, others for successful business archiving. Sure, it will find customers.

As we could see, in spite of the fact today more and more new social networks and different communities provide new exciting features to amuse and attract users, there is a tendency to integrate them into more global networks. This, in our modest opinion, will help to create universal solutions for improved user convenience.

Thank you!

Web Summit: What Is It and Why We Think It Is Worth Attending?

Web Summit took place November 7-10 in Lisbon, Portugal. Itera Research Company was in attendance and we took a number of notes to document our impressions.

What was the Web Summit 2016? Just one more technology conference among so many others? One more trade fair? One more repetitive technology exhibition?

First of all, the figures speak for themselves…

Web Summit 2016:

  • 53,056 Attendees: Tech CEOs, founders, startups, investors and political leaders;
  • 65% Senior Management;
  • 15,000 Internet or digitally-related companies;
  • 166 Countries;
  • 1,490 start-ups;
  • 278 mentors;
  • 2,000 media outlets from more than 100 markets;
  • Major funds: Sherpa Capital, Greylock Partners, NEA, KPCB, Seedcamp.

What other conferences can boast that?

Our overall impression of the conference was very positive.

Web Summit has become a monster of the startup conference world and is the Largest Technology Marketplace in Europe. However, there was none of the glitz and glamour of an MWC or CeBIT. There were no massive corporate stands with flashing lights, no private conferences, no pretence on stage or on the floor, no marketing spiels.

However, the conference did have:

– Top-tier brands speaking / co-hosting the event: All the big names took part in some capacity, delivering great talks on mainstream technology.

– Networking: They have a pre-event app that allows guests to search and chat with other participants. The app is like “Tinder” and enables you to arrange meetings beforehand with relevant businesses / investors.

– Fun: Daily bar crawls, night summit, surf summit, music summit, food summit and so much more!

Web Summit 2016 exceeded all our expectations in terms of size, organization and overall atmosphere. We will certainly be going back next year and hope to see you there!

What are the most common distractions for programmers during the work day?

Distractions for programmers during the work day

This question might be interesting for programmers but also for employers who try to avoid possible distractions for their employees.

Everyone who works in an open office environment or even a cubicle has to deal with outside distractions every day on a continual basis, and developers are no exception. Distractions greatly affect performance and productivity, causing a delay in task completion and an increase in the number of bugs. Programmers have a unique mindset and train of thought, and that is why they often lose more time when returning to a task than non-technical people do.

Here are the top six common distractions for programmers:

  1. Meetings
  2. Ambient office noise
  3. Walk up “quick questions”
  4. Skype chats
  5. Emails
  6. Cute coworkers

Employee satisfaction and productivity ultimately have a direct bearing on the organisation’s financial success. Some of the most common distractions among programmers cannot be omitted though. Redesign of an office space, integration of technology, and better planning are able to minimise losses.

Itera Research company has found a healthy balance.
